This has been the year of friend weddings! Each and every one different and meaningful for their own personal reasons. Cara and Tracy, two very close friends of ours, chose to do a small, detailed wedding full of meaning.

The location was a private residence where they vacation often, the guests were 30 of their closest friends and family, the wine glasses were hand painted by them, the flower containers were collected over the past months...and it goes on and on. What I loved most about this level of meaning was the idea that almost everything we touched, viewed and experienced went though their hands first...and, it was beautiful!

Village Inn! Narragansett and I are having a "thing"

I am not exactly sure why I seem to trend different locations each year-sometimes Boston, Mystic or Providence...this years its Narragansett, and I will take it! The scenery is beautiful, the atmosphere is casual and beachy, and the venues are all full of great views! The Village Inn has been on fire this year with great couples choosing their location for the big day.

Jessie and Matt planned this day with confidence and precision. They knew what they wanted and how to make it happen in relaxed yet efficient way. I arrived early, and Jessie was already dressed and ready for pictures...and so were the bridesmaids! Unheard of. The colors, the shoes, the dress was spectacular and a perfect choice for Jessie!

The ceremony was on the deck over looking the beach on a gorgeous day. It was a ceremony full of respect for the families, history and future. Immediately following we took advantage to of the nearby condos grounds, beach wall and park for pictures. We made it back with plenty of time to relax and regroup for the introductions. Love that! The night was a huge success with great redecorating of the room and a band that kept people dancing even when they were tired!

Whoa! This wedding was planned for over a year and then re-planned in a week thanks to Irene...It was supposed to a green Vermont wedding at Mountain Meadows turned into Green Eli Whitney Museum wedding in Hamden Ct with a full donation basket for the Vermont victims of Irene. Such an amazing couple to think of others on their special day. Now, to the festivities...

To start the weekend off they had a pre-wedding rehearsal party with a vintage T-shirt theme! Atari, Golden Girls, I survived Hurricane Gloria 1985, and the winner- Micheal Bolton concert T-shirt '94! Great ice-breaker for the guests and so much fun.

The wedding. I have one word. Applausometer.

The reception was big, fun, party that was still going very very strong when I made an exit. It was full of close friends in support of this couple having a great weekend no matter where they are. Julie and Sarafine it was such an honor to be a part of your day and thank you so much for having me!

The Glen Manor has always been a loved spot of mine. It offers grandeur with simplicity, sophistication with whimsy, excitement with peace and endless options for photography. The location was the perfect venue for Courtney and Peter who inhabit many of the same qualities. Both the couple and their wedding party were invested in having a amazing day and the images reflect that.

Such an elegant and fun wedding at The Towers..well planned, beach pictures, great food, everyone dancing, and the desire for the full experience...all the way to the planned "thank you" and limo ride to the airport for the honeymoon. It is not often that I am hired to stay to the end of the night, and I have to say, there was something really great about knowing I was there to capture the entire day; nothing was missed.

Meghan and Dan wanted to have a little of everything in their wedding photography- a little getting ready, a little beach, a little Towers, a little formal, a little candid- (oh but they did want a lot of time at the cocktail hour...which we accomplished!) We divided the day into many little photo shoots in different locations and images tell a really great story.

THANK YOU! Meghan and Dan are really a wonderful and patient couple. I was able to experience this first hand! They were so patient during my recent relocation, which temporarily hindered my ability to communicate for a few weeks before their wedding. So this is my "thank you" to Meghan and Dan for being understanding and trusting in my commitment to being their photographer.

Andrea and Matt's wedding was special for me in many ways. Not only was it full of new locations, venues, and creative inspiration, it was also full of faces that to me, are part of my childhood family. I am particularly happy with the results of this wedding since I finally feel I have mastered the art of being an artist and a friend at the same time! It's not easy to do for me.

One of the things I do with each couple I work with is spend time learning about the important people in their life. It is my way of tapping into the relationships that deserve to be captured in a candid and real way. Talking with the Andrea in preparation for the big day I found myself reconnecting to so many people I knew and truly inspired to make the images just what they wanted and hopefully, more.

I could go on and on about how kind, fun, and willing Andrea and Matt were...but I think the pictures will speak for themselves.

Thank you so much for having me be a part of your day! It was truly so much more than I had anticipated!

Westerly Yacht Club!

The last time I was at the Westerly Yacht club, I was photographing my uncles wedding in the freezing winter...this wedding was smack in the middle of this hot hot hot summer. It's a good thing the view is so breathtaking, I can hardly remember anything else! Not to mention, once the wedding party arrived at Yacht club the fun and the celebrating took over the heat and great pictures happened!

Thanks for being troopers, it was worth it!

Narragansett has been calling my name!
My second photographer Kate Daley and I have been having the biggest streak of luck with amazing couples and Narragansett beach. This couple, their family and guests continued this great luck. It also provided myself-who is pretty tall 5'10"-an experience of feeling pretty short! I was surrounded by so many incredibly tall people that I had wished I wore my heels so I could see past them! Kudos to this group of women for rockin' the heels and towering well above 6'! Inspiring! The other thing I noticed, and is surely more important than height, was the close friendships that were evident during the entire evening.

Sheila and Josh ended a week long celebration with their wedding. The support and adoration of their family and guests was palpable. The officiant was a close friend and the toasts and life stories were delivered in the most entertaining ways. It was certainly a day paid in high respect to friendship, not just Sheila and Josh's, but those that surround them.

Thank you Sheila and Josh for such a lovely wedding experience! I hope you don't mind going down in my wedding book as the wedding of the beautiful tall people.

Narragansett Towers!

It seems the Narragansett Towers attracts the most amazing and fun couples. I have had so much fun with my past clients at this location that I arrive excited, inspired and ready to capture the day.

Emily and Jamie's wedding was so relaxed and so laid back! It was a simple sassy wedding with a lot personality, friends and history. They chose to have some of their images taken before the wedding so they could attend some of the cocktail hour, then have the wedding at the Gazebo. It is a smart use of location. The beach was jam packed, as expected on July 4th weekend, so we got creative with the beach wall and achieved some super great beachy images that were not on the beach!

Thank you Jamie and Emily! It was a great pleasure, and your friends are the best too.

A winter wedding with a spring feel!

Who would have guessed February day would have looked like spring? So pretty! Then again I have such amazing luck at Lake of the Isles...it should have been expected. I will admit there was a little hope for a bride in snow picture, but we will take bride in sun.

I chose Lake of the Isles as my 2010 featured venue... Emily and Darren's wedding took a very successful year over the top and now Lake of the Isles is my 2011 featured venue too! I have never done this two years in a row, but i can't help myself...every single wedding at LOI has been incredible and the staff is just amazing. I figure...why mess with a good thing!

Ok Ok back to Emily and Darren. Well what can I say..the day was blissful, meaningful, funny, sweet and beautiful. We photographed everyone at Lake of the Isles before the ceremony, and then went on to the North Stonington Congregational Church for the ceremony and some great great exit shots! After the ceremony they went back to Lake of the Isles and walked right into a cocktail hour and spent the entire evening with their guests! This is one of the bonuses of getting alllll of your pictures done beforehand.

Emily and Darren, thank you for being so fun and easy to work with -and that goes for the whole family too!

Providence Pinup, USO, Quonset Air Museum!

Well now, may I please just say wow! I had one of the most incredible experiences with these fabulous women who happened to be military wives or military themselves, or in one case both! It was so much fun and so inspiring to be able to photograph these women transformed into traditional pinup style girls on WWII planes and helicopters at the Quonset air museum! Putting them in a location like this was just a dream. And may I please give huge props to the PPU team of Brandon Ward-make up, Lulu Locks and Jason Andrade-hair, and Amy Budd posing coach. Truthfully without a talented crew like ours...results like this would not be as successful. Enjoy...oh and book a session would ya!

What a perfect day this turned out to be! Rain threatened the days before but the sun and beautiful temperature were completely on our side! It was a pretty fall day for an outdoor wedding overlooking the Falls and gorgeous museum and stone buildings as a backdrop. The upstairs room at the Mill was a open floor plan room with exposed beams. It offered plenty of room for cocktail dining and a local band to play amazing music for dancing as well as a seated lounge area with the bar. Thank you so much for working with me Ian and Ariana! Engagement Copley Square!

Andrea and Matt wanted a little practice before their wedding day next year. We met in Copley Square and found some super cool spots within a few blocks of each other to hang out in. After about five minutes I realized two things...1 is Andrea doesn't need an ounce of practice, and 2 Matt doesn't either, he just needs a good reason to smile...or a bad one, but a reason none the less.

Another amazing wedding at Lake of the Isles. Is there any wonder why it is my favorite place to work? I will once again mention just how awesome they are to work with and how evident it is by the relaxed and well cared for couples I work with. Laura and Christian are another example.

Laura and Christian exuded elegance and sophistication and it is reflected in their choices of locations, dress, and cars. They also have a great ability of throwing a great party and that was reflected in the band and the mass of happy dancing guests. Check out these images and locations...just stunning.

I wish I could remember exactly what the groom said while he looked over the guests and realized allllll his world had collided. What I do remember is that it was hilarious and involved Star Wars.

The theme of worlds colliding continued throughout the day. The wedding was a varied collection meaningful and inspirational rituals, prayers and a songs. The speeches were performed, yes performed, by family, friends and yes, and an important absentee guest. And the photography incorporated many of the brides favorite spots. The day was a sweet, meaningful, thought provoking and genuine. It was just amazing.

1,000 cranes for a great marraige

In Japan, it is believed that folding 1,000 cranes will grant that person their greatest wish. Felicia folded 1,000 cranes, actually more, and then surrounded herself and new husband Bill with her heartfelt effort. It was breathtaking...both her wish and the view. The wedding was held in the family backyard. It was an elegant, personal, warm and relaxed. Thank you Bill and Felicia! and congratulations!

In October 2008, racing against California's gay marriage ban, Chloe and Frankie Frankeny wed legally in San Francisco with one chore already done: Chloe had taken her wife's name two years before.

"It was the only way we had to fit into a mainstream role that was understandable to anybody," said Chloe, managing editor of a fashion website. "When I told my father I was taking Frankie's name he was sort of blown away because I definitely consider myself a feminist."

With a battle over the state's ban on gay marriage possibly headed to the U.S. Supreme Court, it's likely more same-sex couples will do the same. For the Frankenys, the name switch couldn't magically grant all the marriage benefits denied same-sex couples when compared to one man, one wife, but it was one more way to express their union. It's a symbol rendered even stronger now that legal gay marriages are on hold in California, and for partners who've never had the option.

Logistically, a name-change for gay couples isn't always as simple as trotting out a marriage certificate, the proof most required in heterosexual marriage. Emotionally, the journey is about love, commitment — and a way to ease anxiety over being misunderstood as non-relatives in emergencies or considered less-than as parents.

Another Weddings To Go Green success! This family did it in style, on a beach on a Thursday, very simple and oh so elegant. Gooseberry Beach is not easy to land as a location with all the members wanting this private spectacular view for their own events, but Josh and Christine found Barbara at Glorious affairs to sponsor their wedding at this private club as well as design a perfect evening.
The wedding was on the beach, the weather perfect, cocktails on the deck overlooking the water, pictures on the beach, and the reception with hand rolled cigars, awesome food, and dancing in the club house. The toast boasted of the kindness and sweet nature of the couple, and I couldn't agree more!

Oh, it is not very often where I run into a couple that can master elegance AND simplicity, throw a killer party and enjoy a smashing cake cutting all in one night..and I mean SMASHING!

Jen and Mike's wedding holds a special place in my heart. It was a wedding that my associate Kate and I both loved. First, it was at my favorite and 2010 feature spot Lake of the Isles in Stonington Ct. With the amazing and professional staff to help orchestrate perfection. Second, Jen and Mike both looked stunning and were totally relaxed, fun and willing to work with (oh and so was the wedding party). Third, the party went on it full fun mode even though many of the grooms buddies were called back on the boat. And last but not least, Jen and Mike did a cake cutting like I have never seen. Just all out smashed cake in every crevice of their faces! Oh...and I have to mention there is something about a group of sailors singing the SNL digital short song "I'm on a boat" that is unforgettable.

It was a blast and I am so thankful to have worked with them!

Summer elegance!

To hear a brides mom say "your pictures are what Clare dreamed her wedding pictures to look like" is a HUGE compliment, and a lot of pressure! Welcomed pressure. There is nothing better than working with someone who is a committed to getting great pictures as I am. And, we did it in the rain!

Clare and Matt chose the full service package and we did everything from engagement sessions to getting ready and many locations on the wedding day. We made time for creative pictures and fun family shots, and it all was relaxing and fun. Matt even had time for a cigar picture, or ten. They were fun, willing, prepared and sooo happy.

The day began at The Crowne Plaza, ceremony at PC chapel (my all time favorite) and then to the newly renovated Warwick Country Club. These combined locations provided all we needed for a variety of backdrops at our figure tips.

We have many many ideas to flesh out...this was just the first day. It's here. It's here! Wedding To Go Green! My new business plan. It is amazing wedding photography at an unbelievable price and it is environmentally conscious! What else could you want? Ok Ok, well, I have that too, but only if you want it so it does not go to waste! Gone are the days where everyone "must have" proofs, and albums and in comes the day where don't have to have it....or! you can choose what you would like to print or album or proof! And yes, the DIYers can do it them self, or I can do it for you. It is a win win situation for all.

The other super cool and current part of this launch is the price starting at $1200! No I am not kidding, check out www.weddingsbykrista.com for details. Because I have been able to make my studio greener by giving up my addiction to film negatives, emailing you all necessary paperwork (unless you prefer snail mail), and using the newest, most current equipment with only rechargable batteries my costs have gone down...so now yours has too! Plus this Weddings To Go Green program is targeted for weddings that are on the smaller side. What does "smaller side" mean... well, it means guests less than (or around) 100, and bridal parties that are around 8-10 people total. I did a test run of "weddings to go" this summer and it was a hit...so now it is available all the time. There are a few restrictions on venue locations since I still provide high end full service packages to dedicated places. i.e. Lake of the Isles, Biltmore, Ritz, Stateroom, Oceancliff, etc.

"Weddings to go" embracing the DIY phenomenon.

It's no secret that the "Do It Yourself" movement is here, and here to stay. Well, at least until the economy picks up. How does someone like me, a creative professional, get by if album making is available on snapfish, or Iphoto at a great price and an ok quality? Or if you can buy a "good enough" print at CVS? It's hard, because quality is what makes the professional, but the economy is what makes the budget and we must have a meeting in the middle.

Weddings To Go. $1200-$1800.

Weddings to go is the 2010 program bridging the gap between all the DIY budget conscious clients I have and myself as a creative professional. It allows me to still create amazing imagery for you and gives you the flexibility to design and print your heart out! The cost is a tiny $1200 to $1800! plus travel fees and tax.

Weddings To Go is simple, basic and low impact on both you and me. We book, we plan, I shoot, I edit, I perfect, I share copyrights, 3 weeks, I mail you two sets of DVD negatives, you print, you design, you get to do what ever you want! It's the perfect match! The only definitive extra is travel. And a second photographer can be added.

There are a few restrictions they are pretty obvious...for instance if you have 350 guests and a wedding party of 52, or if you are a bridezilla or groomonster, or would like me in 6 different places at one time, or if you want me to bend over backwards. If you need these things, you will fall into the full service package category...and I am happy to provide those services! Well, maybe not the bending over backwards.

That's it is! simple, straightforward, and fun!

oh! and a warning to look out for... check the bylaws before making an album online! Most of the time it requires you to "give" copyrights up to the company. It tends not to be a big deal usually, but if they happen to use a copyright image they weren't supposed to because you weren't supposed to share the copyrights...guess who is paying the fees and fine? Yep, you. This goes for facebook and such too!

Don't be fooled...these are images taken just a few weeks ago!

I am definitely the photographer for just about all of my friend and family weddings. In this case, my uncle, an archivist, married a fantastic woman who is also an archivist. I, just now, after many years of asking "What is an archivist?" finally have it permanently ingrained in my head. The answer, according to my uncle is "The keeper of old things." So, when we go to the library, or do research on history we are looking up archives of documents and such, or, our history. Now that I a firm grip on the meaning, I felt is only appropriate to make their wedding images look like history too.

The good news is the whole Handfield side of my family is extremely into history and the preservation of history. So the genuine props were there too. Like an old Model T my dad restored, his old restored house, a barn raised by the family and well, my uncle Jerry's top hat. And yes, we did the American Gothic pose too.

Thanks Uncle Jerry and Val... and everyone who raised the barn. It was a perfect backdrop.

Kinney Bugalow at Sunset Farms-I must do more weddings here!

This year has been slammed with weddings that are referred from previous clients. I am talking 60% of them! It IS the most amazing way to get work. Why, do you ask? Well, since you asked, the reason is because the couples that are referred to me come totally relaxed, trusting and ready to be creative and fun! It has been yet another ingredient to a picture perfect year. (pun intended)

This couple took me on a creative adventure to Kinney Bungalow at Sunset Farms in Narragansett as well as through my own memories having grown up on a farm. Yep, that includes haying, milking the cows, raising livestock and an organic garden- the exact things that drove me to a more urban adult life. Fortunately the combination of a farm and an urban outlook made this couple, the Bungalow and myself a great creative match. We were able to capture the essence of a farm with out being country, and the urban vibe of the couple with out high rise buildings.

Thank you so much K and C for a great first experience at Kinney Bungalow...I now hope to do many many more there!

It's just too hard to capture in words the amazing connection, creativity, sense of humor, and simple elegance these two have. I was blown away with the constant attention paid to the little things, the lighthearted jabs and the laughter that ensued. That compliment extends to the families and guests too! What a party!

I knew going into this wedding there was very little to worry about. Not only were they relaxed and organized, they hired Jen Brinton an amazing wedding planner that had it all worked out so they could spend the day having fun.

We began at the family summer home in CT, the wedding was at Watch Hill Chapel, and everything else was held at the amazing Misquamicut Club in Westerly Ct. The club is one of those places that with a creative eye has a huge amount of photographic options and throws a party like no ones business. It's a good thing because the bride and groom also know how to throw a party-including a self written and recorded rap for the bride and her famous bird dance performed to perfection by the groom and a few friends, a hilarious rendition of "Hello Dolly" sung by the entire guest list, and an incredible band flown in from North Carolina. (and I mean over the top incredible)

Downtown Providence...it has more to offer than you would think

The idea of having a wedding in downtown Providence gets overlooked. I think it should be re-marketed or something...this wedding was amazing with all the city lights and beautiful backdrop of Hotel Providence. It's an elegant decor most people don't realize Providence offers. Oh and the night shots...so sparkly (and I didn't use a filter)!

This couple planned the wedding a few short months, and it was very very well done. They kept is simple and easy for the guests, and for the wedding party we used a big party coach bus to get them from location to location. Great idea!

The lighting in the Hotel Providence is lovely- dark and dreamy...and can be a bit tough for photography-especially focusing- but the staff did everything they could to help us out and in the end- it worked out perfectly.

Family, fun and another Krista!

It is not very often that I meet another person named Krista and adore her. I rarely get the opportunity to say my name over and over again within a short amount of time. But on this day I did. I was even able to catch the relaxed vibe and feel just a little like a part of this family. Maybe it was just the name. Maybe it was Charles and Charleen, the officiants of whom I am very fond of or the perfect view of the Newport bridge. Maybe it was Castle Hill a location I photograph often or the hot summer weather. Maybe it was time spent with the groom and his son and the Boston Red Sox or that the bride was walked down the isle by her daughter. Maybe it had something to with a ceremony filled with traditions from innumerable cultures. In the end I really don't know exactly what it was, but this hot, beautiful, ocean view wedding is something my assistant and I still talk about.

I can't express my appreciation enough to everyone who chooses to work with me. I love what I do, and I have a ton of fun doing it. There was a little extra...ummm...pressure (maybe?) for this wedding since the groom is a film editor from NYC, chose me, and now when he sees my work, he is going to edit! Oh I hope the phrase "b-roll" doesn't come to mind. Eeeek!

Making a "come back" are photo card thank you's and holiday wishes. I am not sure if it is the economy, or the recycling craze, or that the cards designs are more current -but giving a picture from your wedding AND saying thank you or happy holidays is back, and your parents and friends are doing it too. These are professional printed 4x8 cards and a great way to give a high end print to all your friends and families at an amazing price. I mean amazing- no joke. They even come with envelopes.

Check out a few of the designs...there are tons more too...there is even one that is totally blank so you make it what ever kind of card you would like and give them a full 4x6!

I have the pleasure to photograph friend and family weddings a few times a year. It is an honor because most of the people I know have access to more than one wedding photographer choice, and I consider it a compliment when it is me. It is true, it has been YEARS since I have attended a wedding without being the photographer too, but truth be told, I would be a horrible guest and spend my time looking for shots and location and lighting.

This couple flew all the way in from Denver to have the ceremony in Massachusetts at Country Gardens. It is a beautiful little hidden gem over in Rohoboth Ma with gardens everywhere and perfect white tent tucked right in amongst them. There is a room for getting ready and lots of places for the guests to explore. It happened to be a stupid hurricane, so we weren't able to get funny shots of croquet, or boccie but it did stop just long enough for us to get some beautiful shots down at one of the gardens...and many great one at peeking out the edges of tent.

The flow of the evening was designed really well and in a way I had never seen before. They got ready, then 20 close family and just a few friends came for the ceremony, then 45 minutes of pictures and then the rest of the guests arrived for the cocktail hour and party. It was really great to watch the couple actually have time to spend with their guests! Great idea.

It was a great night, and I thank you guys once again!

Biltmore bliss.

Ahhh, the sweetest bride and groom, the Biltmore, downtown, PC chapel, Scott Connery, and a great band. Yeah, that's right- Biltmore bliss. So many overlook this location thinking is does not have the flavor of modern day, but isn't the combination of old world and new world the modern vision?

We started in the new redone sparkly suites for getting ready with the bride and groom in separate rooms and then photographed the bride all around. I was able to get creative and try a few new ideas in the Biltmore...success! I then went with the groom to the chapel to get his "just a tiny bit nervous" state. It was the best. After the ceremony we did a few quick images on the PC grounds and then had a blast trying the Biltmore dip-easier said than done...after that we just let the day roll out in front of us and captured a perfect day. oh and new outside night pictures.

I has originally wanted to title this blog "It's in the details" but as I was looking through the incredible details of the day, I couldn't pull myself away from the fun images! So I put in everything...and I had to edit 3 times.

This day was referred by a previous MOB, and couple I had worked with. They were so easy and fun to work with and I would guess the referral helped ease the mind and produced such relaxed pictures in such a stately location. It's my favorite kind of contrast. My assistant and I were so happy to have experienced this day.

It was actually a wedding with great vision all tied up into 6 hours of photography. No getting ready, no crazy posed time with the WP or families, just quick and easy. It is what it is. It was beautiful.

So thank you C and M, and mom and Dad... it was so great working with you.

Small wedding, and a new family

So, people thought it was crazy or cheesy for me to create the "intimate wedding package." And I will certainly concur that titles of packages are really hard to create while still sounding slick and cool, but my goal with this package was to be open to weddings that had less than 50 guests, and just wanted some beautiful photography for a few hours. This wedding jumped right on the idea, and the images were great and I had a lot of fun getting to know the 36 guests.

We skipped the getting ready and spent the time photographing the ceremony, the bride and groom and the kids. A new family. The son was the best man and the daughter was one of two bridesmaids. And all 4 of them had a great time! My favorite family picture shows how sweet they all are together. It was really nice.

The bride and groom just wanted some fun pictures of themselves on the big day. We spent the hours in Norwich Ct soaking up the historical beauty. We went between St Patricks Cathedral, City Hall building, a historical family home, and the Norwich Inn and Spa.

Thank you so much for working with me. It was a great first experience with my "intimate wedding package" and now I hope to do more!

Newport Regatta and my new neighbors.

It's no secret to my friends that the neighborhood I live in seems to be place where many of my clients move to... 3 couples live within 2 blocks and this couple will make 4! It certainly makes for easy delivery...oh and I am so very thankful I adored working with this couple now that we might run into each other!

Once we finished the family portraits and all the "must have planned shots" we slid into the ceremony and reception with a calm and celebratory vibe. The view was stunning, and the thunder storm help create some great dramatic night shots (truth be told, I was stuck under an awning and that was the only thing to photograph!) They skipped the flower toss, cake cutting and spent the night smiling and visiting with old friends. They really did visit, even though all the images show them only with each other! I promise! They could not have picked a more perfect spot for the simplicity and beauty they were looking for. The Newport Regatta is the best kept secret (or at least it was) with the best kept views.

Ahhhh, Astor's. It's on fire this year!

Astor's Beechwood Mansion has been a loved location of mine since 2004. Not only does is offer spectacular views, a great house with an amazing veranda, and a perfect bridal suite, it also has a superb staff that treats everyone (including us) with kindness, class, and genuine caring. It is refreshing and we appreciate any establishment that is sophisticated enough to respect everyone's participation in the day. I say that because I am beginning to believe that is why they attract such incredible couples and families! I have never, not once, had anything but perfection at this location.

This couple had planned the day to spend with their guests, no cramming in pictures here. There was plenty of time to get the images done BEFORE the cocktail hour, so they could relax, and just be with guests as much as possible. It also offered up tons of time to stop by the Cliff Walk in Newport for a little added view, and it allowed us to really get some amazing and comfortable images. Extra time, although is not required, certainly allows for a little extra creativity in images. Another added bonus for me was-once we were done with the planned photos- the candids were just as great, just as creative and even more fun. Happy.

The groom in this couple has a serious love and knowledge of photography. It is always the biggest compliment to have the opportunity to work with someone who "gets" it in pictures. A special thank you J.

Ice cream truck! and a Lobster Bake.

Over the past few years there has been an increase in weddings that are tweaking the traditional wedding order to create a more personal and less formal flow of events. Many are having both genders on both sides of the wedding party, or no wedding party at all, and some are doing cocktail receptions or lobster bakes(as this couple did) instead of full sit-down dinners. It is quite common to skip the garter and bouquet now, or have an outdoor ceremony instead of a religious site, and more more more people are not cutting the cake either. One thing I have not run into in my 10+ years of weddings is an ice cream truck instead of cake or dessert. That is, until now!

The bride and groom greeted every guest from inside the truck to give them what ever treat they wanted. It was such a fun idea and the whole guest list smiled like they were 8 years old all over again! It generated a feeling of simple and sweet, and gave the couple a little moment with each guest. It was fun to see guests at a wedding get excited over a snow cone, or a Italian ice, or the old ice cream sandwich. www.jacksicecream.net

Boston in Newport!

One of the speeches that happened in honor of the couple's marraige, was in regards to location. The entire day took place at Ocean Cliff resort in Newport RI starting with getting ready, to amazing ocean views, to the ceremony and reception...oh, and it's absolutely the perfect spot for the groom drinking a beer out of his shoe. Anyway, there was clearly a confusion for the best man, a Bostonian, as he jested the couple as to why if they were from Boston, the families were from Boston, and the friends were from Boston...what could possibly be the reason to drag everyone to NEWPORT, Rhode Island? Well, take a look at the scenery in the images and I think we will all get a glimpse at the reasons the couple thought Newport was THE perfect spot for getting married. Clearly they were right.

Blue Hill Country Club

Country Clubs, there are a million and one, and the only time I get to photograph at them is when the family of the couple getting married are members. It's a shame really, because I loved the simplicity and elegance the Blue Hill Country Club has to offer. Just so well done, calm, and trusting. It was nice to have creative freedom by the staff.

This couple was so laid back, I mean soooo laid back that my memory of the day just flows through it. Everything took place there, from getting ready to the party and BHCC had so many rooms and locations and views we were never with out a new space to be in. The closeness of the families was also something to keep me busy- it's just so great to see a group of people with history and celebrating it. Check out the Dad singing to the bride and the rest of the family doing back up. SO GREAT

Sunglasses required! Amazing bright color at Boston Harbor Hotel!

As mentioned in the previous post, Boston has a ton of views to offer...old world charm, new architecture, the Harbor...really I can go on and on. It offers a plethora of backdrops options for every couple to choose from. Each wedding has a completely different feel and for that, I approach every with a fresh perspective and ready for the bride, groom and wedding party to help shape the images and take the spaces chosen as another personality to shape the day.

This wedding took place at The Boston Harbor Hotel at Rowes Wharf. What a spectacular day, perfect weather and the colors the couple chose popped right out of the the images! We began at the brides mom and dad's house, moved on to a family Parish and then straight to the Harbor and took advantage of the water and the architecture and the results are stunning-not to mention fun and relaxed. We of course pre-planned the choice locations(since there are 2 million options), and then let the day and the light guide us. Oh...the night time light and color! so gorgeous!

A little bit of everything.

Boston, what doesn't it offer? It has great brownstones, beautiful churches, and if you can get there some really great skyline views.

On this day, we wanted a little bit of everything. We started on Marlborough St, moved on to Brookline, and ended up a place with a view of Boston. The couple also wanted to be sure to capture both the elegance and the party shots, since all were very important. We got it all.

One challenge being in the city or even around the city is traffic, parked cars on the perfect street, highways and unattractive buildings in the background that we want to work around. My solution to that... make the pictures amazing so you don't notice them, and accept that it is all a part of an urban setting and work WITH it. If you can do that, it's cake. This couple knew what an urban wedding would bring, and went with it.

Practice really does make perfect!

One of the greatest things about engagement photo shoots is the trust and comfort created between the photographer and the couple. (See earlier post for engagement images) This comfort allows the wedding day to be so smooth from a photo perspective. It is almost as if we can anticipate each others moves, and we are able to just have fun. Although engagement sessions are not required, I do recommend them- especially if you are uncomfortable in front of the camera.

This couple was all about fun, color and atmosphere. (again see engagement post) They were happy, relaxed yet excited, and enjoyed every single moment of the day. Oh and the dancing!

The biggest smile I may have ever seen was permanently fixed on this brides face- just as I remember it. Having been lucky enough to photograph her sisters wedding 5 years ago, I was able to quickly jump right into the close knit energy this family exudes, and the grooms family was just as fun, and happy as one could have hoped! I feel fortunate that this family, (and many others) has the confidence and can recognize my ability to capture both daughters' weddings.

The day was in Salem Ma at the Hawthorne Hotel. It was yet another day threatening rain rain rain, but held off just enough to go outside and enjoy the perfect springtime green we all love. We toyed with staying indoors, but just couldn't do it! The comfort and relaxation the outdoors seems to bring to everyone just can't be beat! And the smiles...outdoors just makes it better.

The couple accented the day with dark dramatic colors reflected in peacock feathers and it added a bit of a vintage feel. All very appropriate for Salem and the Hawthorne. It was stunning and original.

Fashion, may I introduce you to a wedding?

I honestly love photographing weddings. The outfits, the design, the personalities, the party, the fun, the emotion, the smiles- all great image making and always plentiful! Wedding photography requires I capture all of that, and not a bit more. As of late the more "high fashion" magazine style photography is coming into style, along with color saturation and other photoshop or post production techniques. Don't worry, I am on it, and have been slowly integrating it into the work as an OPTION for you, not a requirement.

This couple was all over it. They not only planned the day at a number of sites practically designed to be in magazines, they also innately knew how to move as if in a fashion shoot...and were willing to take the time to get everything photographed to perfection. All while having an absolute blast, remaining completely calm, and absorbing every moment of the day- right until the exit.

It was a wonderful day.

It's no secret this season has so far been full of unsure weather, and ultimately lots of rain. Somehow, every single wedding I have photographed has been lucky enough to find the deserving sun break (or at least the "no rain" break) for a great photo shoot!

This couple was no exception...they also had the stupid rain...and the rain break...but what made it even better is they had the willingness to do it in the rain anyways. We were able to get great downtown romantic rain shots and a some amazing foggy dreamy shots too! Great images are always there. Weather just gives it a flavor.

Alpine Country Club

Clam bake!

If you love seafood, the an elegant clam bake is the perfect solution- and so much fun.

The ceremony and reception took place at the ever elegant Blithwold Mansion in Bristol RI. The day was absolutely perfect, no rain, but a perfect cloud cover. The cloud cover is not usually something I love, but Blithwold is facing west, normally making the front of the Mansion just to sun bleached to photograph up close. Not on this day! We took complete advantage! The images are perfect!

The high style of the whole day was perfectly complimented by bibs, lobster, and cocktails galore. It was a party. So much fun and reflective of the couple's outlook on life.

It was a stressful week with the rain, rain, rain in the forecast. Weddings in the rain are still just as beautiful, but we had big ideas and great expectations for this intimate, elegant wedding. The guest list was small, the details were hand made by friends and family, the dress was silk and the views were hand picked. So, rain really would have been a tough thing to work around!

All I can say is thank you to whatever it is that made this night. I can't wait to share the pictures with the couple!
